$PLTR: Overvalued, or Worth Every Penny?
Lately I’ve seen the open-source world map worldmonitor go viral on GitHub, and quite a few people are saying: “I built a budget Palantir on my own in a week, so what makes PLTR worth hundreds of billions of dollars? Is a P/E of over 100x a bubble?”
As a software engineer and an investor: “The valuation is detached from reality, and the bubble could burst at any time”
Outrageous P/E: Even with the latest results looking good, the Forward P/E still hovers around 100-140x, far above the tech giants (even Nvidia is only around 20-30x).
Moat concerns: Systems led by AIP are powerful, but as LLMs and open-source data integration tools (such as deck.gl + Three.js + Local AI) develop, small and mid-sized Enterprises may choose to build their own substitutes.
Insider selling: CEO Alex Karp sells shares from time to time, and he and several other executives (CTO Shyam Sankar, President Stephen Cohen) have been cashing out heavily lately.
